I can only imagine what it would be like without the cut and shit recording. Thankfully, we can hear whos doing the best stuff. Though I might prefer a SBD of 1968-11-22, that other one is also pretty smokin but I dont listen to it much as the sound is just god awful.

well right, its pretty solid for 68. Generally as a music recording, its quite poor, but so are most GD recording, and I listen to plenty of fall 72, so im used to it. Just voicing my lust for prime SBDs of these monster performances.

I dream of a SB of this show to appear, probably more than any show of the early years besides 4-15-69.

A funny thing about those really 'raw' tapes of '68-'70 is that as much as I would love to hear a pristine vault recording of, say 12-29-68 or 2-2-69, sometimes think I that the rough sound adds a certain edge or heaviness to the music that would be lost with a 'perfect' sounding recording. Call me crazy, I wouldn't argue...

I think that the tonal changes you and WH allude to also have some connection to the "hall/venue tone" (Bear talks about this)...thus, with the outside (right?) venues in FL, you get a very diff sound than with indoors, and one hall can be night and day diff from another, even though these are SBDs (but not "vault quality"). We noticed this when processing tapes of our HS DEAD coverband, as the adjustments we'd make for outside at the soundboard gave the overall sound a very different quality relative to HS gyms and such...

Assume the same applied to them.

Yea after listening to these shows more I've wondered how much of the sound of their equipment is altered by the recording. Like the distorted sound that jer's guitar has in 1968-12-29. I assume its less rough sounding. I've pondered this more so with the difference of sound b/t euro 72 and fall 72.

At a minimum I'd like to have both. Some shows I prefer AUD's for due to crowd reactions or just overall ambiance.
